Volunteers make a difference. Through the dedication and commitment of our volunteers, the Delta Museum and Archives is able to offer many programs that otherwise would not be possible. Are you interested in local First Nations culture, local history or multiculturalism? Do you enjoy meeting others with similar interests? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then consider joining our team at the Delta Museum and Archives and help make history come alive!
No experience is required as the Museum will provide you with all the training you need. Please complete a Volunteer Form, submit one copy electronically to firstname.lastname@example.org and then print off a second copy for your interview. To submit an electronic form, please save your form to your desktop and then attach the form in an email.
Please volunteer to assist in the area(s) that suits your interests and schedule. Below are just some areas that may be of interest.
Costume Collection Organizer
Are you interested in history and historical costumes? Are you able to sew and use a digital camera? Consider volunteering as a Costume Collectin Organizer and working with the Museum's historical costume collection. You will work with the Program Coordinator to arrange better storage facilities for the costume collection, mend and press costumes, catalogue new costumes, and add catalogue numbers to the costume collection.
“Museum Muscle Crew”
Members of this crew assist all staff in the moving of objects from one location to another for the Delta Museum and Archives on an as needed basis. These objects could consist of office furniture or equipment, file boxes or, in rare instances, large artifacts.
Museum Services Assistant
Do you like working with the public? Are you passionate about history and museum collections? As a Museum Services Assistant, you will provide important services to our guests both by providing introductory services to Museum visitors and maintaining the cleanliness of the Museum exhibits. If you are interested, please indicate on the Volunteer Form under "other."
Presenting School Programs
Have you ever considered sharing your love of history with the Museum's youngest visitors? If you enjoy working with children then become a docent -- a volunteer who presents educational programs to the classes that attend programs at the museum. In order to be able to provide enough programs to meet the demand from the Delta schools, there is an urgent need for school program volunteers.
If you are interested in the school program and can volunteer two hours per week: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, during the school year, please indicate on your application that you would like to become a docent. This rewarding volunteer experience requires no special knowledge and the museum provides you with all the training you will need at training sessions held in the Spring and Fall.
If you love research and children, then we need your skills! As a Programs Researcher, you will conduct reseach to be used in the creation of new programs as well as updating existing programs. This position is flexible and projects can be completed over a short term, long term or from home. If you are interested, please indicate on the Volunteer Form under "other."
Researcher and Data Imputer
One volunteer is needed to work with the Administrative Assistant and the fundraising contractor to research donor and member files for appropriate information to start to build our new donor relationship database. This is a two-three month project that will begin in December. We would like someone who can come in for two 4 hour shifts per week or for one full day.
** By law, any volunteer working with children will be subject to a criminal records check.
